Galaxy Si9000: Android-based Smart Phone from Samsung

As many of you know, the Galaxy series has delivered many awesome line ups for the Android market. And the quality of these series is considered great. Moreover, they are mostly operated under the Android OS, which is now really popular among nowadays’ smart phones.

That’s the reason that brought me to this one called Galaxy Si9000. Galaxy Si9000 is another great touch screen smart phone from Galaxy series.

By looking at the whole design of this phone, Galaxy Si9000 runs in the same framework design with the other Samsung products called Samsung Wave2, which has been reviewed a while ago on this blog.

Anyway, just like any touch screen phone around the market, the front side of Galaxy Si9000

is dominated by a wide touch screen and some standard physical keys.

Samsung Galaxy Si9000: a New Rising Star in Touch Screen Market
Galaxy Si9000
Design

The body of Galaxy Si9000 is designed beautifully in rounded shape on each corner. At a glance, this phone looks similar to old generation of iPhone, especially at the rounded shape and the grey trimming that wraps up the entire side of this phone.

Luckily, the 3 main physical keys and the Samsung logo on the top side have made it clear that this phone has its own identity, the Samsung identity, not just some iPhone copycat.

Anyway, one of the best things that you will get from this phone is the touch screen aspect. The screen itself looks really responsive even with a slight touch. The help of the 16 M colors has also elevated the whole screen quality to the next level.

Interface and Functionality

The screen interface of this phone kind of reminds me a little bit with the screen interface of Sony Ericsson Xperia series called MediaScape, especially with the “Add widget” functionality. Just like the feature of Android-based Xperia series, the feature called “add”, that you can find when pressing the first/left soft key, allows you to add more standard elements, such as: Widgets, Folders or Shortcuts into the home screen.

The only thing that makes the interface of this phone different with the interface of Xperia series is the Wallpaper of this phone, which doesn’t deploy the TimeScape on the screen. However, sliding the screen to the left or right looks pretty similar with Xperia series.

The 3 main physical keys on the bottom area are really handy for the users to operate the touch screen. Pressing the first button will show you 6 screen navigation, from: Add (widgets, folders, shortcuts, etc), Wallpaper, Search, Notification, Edit, and Settings. Choosing the Samsung “add widget” will display you some of useful and interesting widgets, such as: Feeds and Update, Calendar Clock, Weather Clock, Daily Briefing, Dual Clock, Days and many more.

The center physical button has been assigned as a menu screen button, while the last button will bring you back to the home screen. It’s really different with the UI (User Interface) of iPhone, which only has one physical button on the front side that will automatically bring you back to the first application screen.

User Opinions
  • I just bought this phone this week, after considering the other phones, such as: Incredible S, Desire S and iPhone 4.
  • Samsung Wave 2 is fast and awesome. Screen Clarity is outstanding. Moreover, it’s already been installed with Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
Conclusion

Bottom line, Samsung has become one of the giants in the industry of mobile phone, especially touch screen smart phone. Therefore, the quality of its products will be guaranteed great. Samsung Galaxy Si9000 is no exception. Bringing Android experience to operate its touch screen, this phone also comes with many awesome elements for the users. Definitely, many devoted fans or even new fans of Samsung will love this new addition.
