  • Pros
  • Really clear and great sound quality | Can play high quality N-Gage 2 games or 3D java games perfectly | Cool spinning keypad |  2MP Camera | Wide screen
  • Cons
  • Its battery depreciates so fast | No flash light | Design is too cute for male users | D-Pad gives wrong direction if it's broken
  • Bottomline
  • Bottom line, although Nokia 5700 XpressMusic is not released by Nokia as its part of N-Gage plan, this phone is still able to play most of N-Gage 2 games perfectly. However, when the battery gets fat, you MUST really throw it away. The battery. Not the phone.

Design

From its whole design, the Nokia 5700 XpressMusic looks run in the same framework design with its other sisters, where the red color becomes the trimming that wraps up the entire body. Although this phone looks quite similar with the other XpressMusic phones, this phone’s spinning mechanism on the keypad will surely become the trademark of this phone.

As you can see, Nokia 5700 Xpress Music’s spinning mechanism on the keypad is specifically created to enter the camera button on the back, which is also utilized as a play/pause music button, along with the other rewind and forward buttons for music player navigation. When the bottom part is rounded to the other way around, it will automatically enter the camera screen. Taking a picture should be easy when the play/pause button is pressed.

Interface and Functionality

With the display quality of TFT, 16M colors, everything that you see on the 240 x 320 pixels screen looks really clean and colorful. Unfortunately, animated themes can be used when theme application was run in the background. So in order to use the animated themes, you must firstly open the theme application on the main menu.

Multimedia and Entertainment

Music has become the main purpose why Nokia brought this phone to the market at the first time. It does promise great and clean sound quality. Well, apparently it does. With the support to run media files across WMV/RV/MP4/3GP in video formats and MP3/WMA/WAV/RA/AAC/M4A in music formats, every sound can come out clearly and beautifully through the headset. To be honest, i'll guaranteed you will be blown away by its sound quality. It is so clear and the bass frequency can be really felt perfectly.

The stereo loudspeaker can also produce a wide range of sounds in really loud but still clear on the outside.

Phone Accessories

Nokia 5700 XpressMusic features some awesome functionality, such as: Loudspeaker with stereo speakers, Bluetooth, Infrared port, USB, 2MP Camera, Video Call and Stereo FM radio. Considering with the rich of features you will get from this phone, the price is pretty acceptable at the phone shops.

Data Storage

Running out data storage of 38 MB internal memory shouldn’t be worried too much because the microSD external memory is available around the market, with up to 4GB on upgrade. This external memory will surely affect the price of this phone.

Gaming Compatibility

Playing game is one the best things you can get with this phone because its Symbian OS v9.2, S60 rel. 3.1 on operating system will give you the power to run vast majority of N-Gage and Symbian games from: Resident Evil: Degeneration, Real Football 2009, Bounce 3D (this game is awesome), Metal Gear Solid 3D, Assassin’s Creed 3D, and many more. All the java applications and games can also be played conveniently with this phone because of its java version of MIDP 2.0.

Case covers

Nokia 5700 XpressMusic is available in 3 different case covers, Red, Gray, and Black. I have the gray one, but honestly, it looks really girly. It’s likely more suitable for my sister than me. So my recommendation, if you are a guy, and though one, aim for the other color, say Black, to get a though look on the outside.

Battery Life

Though it’s stated that Nokia 5700 XM’s standard Li-Ion 900 mAh battery can last up to 290 hours in stand-by and up to 3 hours 30 minutes in talk time mode, personally, since I am a mobile gamer and spend my entire time to play games with this phone, Nokia 5700 XM can last around 3-4 hours for hardcore usage (say, playing games), 5-6 hours in music play and 3 hours for internet usage.

The worst thing about the battery of Nokia 5700 XM is I’ve experienced that the depreciation rate of its battery is quite faster. If it has finally reached to the lowest point (when the battery’s body becomes fat), its battery life can be so much worst that can only last around 15-30 minutes in the normal usage. So this should be your concern when getting this phone.

My advice would be to use this phone when its battery is not charged, because this is the real reason why the battery of Nokia's products could depreciate that quick. However, if you buy this phone in new condition, of course with new battery, then the battery life is great.

Conclusion

Bottom line, although it is an old product from Nokia, Nokia 5700 XpressMusic is really an awesome music player phone. The sound quality is superb, the screen interface is clean and colorful, its design is modern and sophisticated and it has great gaming compatibility. This phone is quite expensive right now, although this phone is already labeled as outdated around the market. That's why I give score 2.5 for this phone, which is pretty good for that quality.

Okay then, that's all i can share to you in this Nokia 5700 review. Hope you like it. And if you want to post your own personal review of this phone, don't be hesitated to send your personal review on the "Post Your Review" button above.
