Nokia Asha 300: Touch Screen Cell Phone at Low-end Market

Nokia is ready again to bring its latest low-end cell phone that comes with great camera capability, and it’s called

Nokia Asha 300. Although it’s released to the market as a cheap cell phone, it doesn’t mean that the quality of this phone will be sacrificed to the low by the vendor. In fact, having already been equipped with touch screen capabilities on its 2.4 inch screen, this phone is a hot product at low-end market.

Design

Nokia Asha 300 is designed in the shape of candy bar to make sure it fits perfectly in users’ hands. Each corner of this phone has a rounded shape, which gives impression that this phone is suitable for everyone without judging their age, gender or even life style

. Nokia Asha 300 definitely looks modern, especially with its youth appearance that sticks to the design. The fact that the case cover of this phone is made from plastic material also doesn’t really affect to the whole design of this phone. It still looks awesome./span>

  • Pros
  • 2.4 inch touch screen | The support of 3.5G connection | Can read flashdisk (with separately sold cable) | Pretty smooth user interface | The sound quality is pretty good with the support of Equalizer | Cheap
  • Cons
  • No operating system, only Java platform | The photo and video quality is not really good | Nothing special with the original web browser
  • Bottomline
  • Bottom line, even though this phone is sold in the market as low-end cell phone, the quality that comes with this phone is not really good overall. Compared with other touch screen smart phones around the market, then this phone will lose the battle by miles. As alternative, you can opt to buy Android phones, say, Sony Ericsson Xperia series or Samsung Galaxy series.

Nokia Asha 300

Since Nokia Asha 300 is a touch screen cell phone, the dedicated button to lock the screen is also equipped on this phone. Making sure that every time you are in a hurry and don’t have enough time to lock the screen, you can just press the lock screen. So it’s pretty handy.

The numeric keypad spreads out nicely on the front side below the screen. Unfortunately, the buttons are not comfortable to press because each button has a curve shape. The material of the buttons, which is glossy material, also makes it even more difficult to press and users need to adapt with more time get used with the buttons.

Interface and Functionality

The great thing of this phone is absolutely the touch screen. It is really responsive to use. You just need to tap the application or menu you want to use, and it will bring you directly to your wished destination in the couple of seconds.

Interface of this phone looks great. Moreover, with the touch screen functionality, user interface is really comfortable and fun to use. The quick access of your favorite application or menu can be found easily on the homescreen. Without the use of operating system, the performance of this phone is still really fast and fluid.

The interface of its music player is also interesting to highlight. Unfortunately, although it looks attractive, it doesn’t come with the animation feature. So the experience of listening to music can be little bit flat. Anyway, the audio quality of this phone can be considered pretty good. The speaker of this phone sounds louder but it’s still clear to listen, even when the volume is set at the highest bar.

Multimedia and Entertainment

The audio quality is a lot better when listening to music with the original headphone that comes with the phone. The instrument can come out clearly and the bass frequency can be felt perfectly in our ears. And if you’re still not satisfied with audio quality, the Equalizer has been provided to you. The Equalizer gives you 5 different genres to pick that suits with your preference. You can also adjust the equalizer manually by using 2 manual presets that each gives you 5 bars for audio setting.

Also, if you want to download new songs for your phone, the access of Ovi Music has been given on this phone. Last but least, FM radio is also equipped if you want to listen to your favorite radio stations.

Camera

The camera feature of this phone is also the great thing you can get. Although the camera is not accompanied by the LED flash and autofocus, it’s still a 5MP camera. I mean, considering that this phone is really cheap, 5MP camera is definitely above the standard of any cell phones at this price range. Unfortunately, the quality of photo on this phone is not really great. It’s just mediocre.

For example, when you snap photo in outdoor area, there are noises around the picture. So yeah, the picture quality is mediocre. And in indoor area, the noises look even clearer and make the photo look blurry overall.

Recording video is also not really good thing to do with this phone. The dots look crowding the whole screen of video. The video doesn’t capture smoothly and the frame rate is just bad.

Connectivity

Okay, enough talking about the cons with the camera, now let’s go to the other aspect, the connectivity. This phone has been injected with 3.5G connection or HSDPA. So practically, browsing internet with this phone is pretty fast. Unfortunately, its great 3.5G feature is not followed by a good web browser capability. In fact, there is nothing special with its web browser. It’s just another element to complement the phone.

Nokia Asha 300 comes with micro USB cable. Besides with its original charging cable, this phone can be charged with the cable from other phone models, as long as it has the port for micro USB. Anyway, there is also an interesting feature called USB on-the-go which enables this phone to read flash disc, of course by using an extra cable that is sold separately for this phone.

Conclusion

Bottom line, the vendor is aware that when rolling out this phone to the market, it will be compared with other touch screen smart phones that come with much better features and specs.

Moreover, if the price of some competitors hit the lower price than Nokia Asha 300, then it’s useless to buy this phone when you are given with wide variety of options around the market. For example is of course Xperia series. Nokia Asha 300 is absolutely gonna lose in the battle by miles.

Nokia Asha 300 is sold in different case covers, such as: Graphite, Night Shade, Gold, White Silver, Pink, Red. So pick your favorite one and you're good to go.

  1. I don't think you should be comparing this phone to smartphones (bottomline). It is not a smarthphone, but good quality elegant phone with touch screen as additional feature which doesn't make is a smartphone. Anf for what it does, it is superb.
