Talking about the journey of Samsung in the cell phone market, specifically in touch screen gadget market, it's kind of interesting. Samsung Galaxy series have contributed a lot in the Android market these days. | Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 Review |
The first aspect that I want to discuss in this Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 review is the design of this phone.
Design
Design has always become the first thing that Samsung must focus on when producing its Galaxy series. And Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 is no exception. The first thing that probably pops up in your mind when seeing this phone would be that this phone looks really portable as a smart phone. Apparently, that could be true.
Having been wrapped up in the whole plastic material, Samsung doesn’t have that really complicated design and it just looks really small and portable. It kind of reminds me of the one from Sony Ericsson called Xperia X10 Mini Pro, where the size of that phone is really small compared to other touch screen phones around the market.
Once you have a hold of this phone in your hands, Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 feels really nice and fits perfectly in your grasp. This phone is also pretty light in weight. However, the simple look that is presented on the front side is not followed by the back side of device. You can see that the dynamic side of this phone is only shown on the back. It looks really elegant and fresh.
Layout
On the left side of this phone, there are microSD Hot Swap slot, Power switch button and Volume buttons. The 3.5mm headphone jack and micro USB slot can be found on the top. The wide touch screen dominates the front side of the phone, while the 3 physical keys for Homescreen, Main menu and Back are placed on the front side below the wide screen. Last but not least, the 3.2MP camera can be found on the back. Overall, the whole design and the layout of buttons are well produced by this vendor.
Interface and Functionality
As a touch screen smart phone, the screen should be the one that deserved the best treatment from the vendor. Unfortunately, with the support of only 256K color display and 240x320 pixel screen resolution, the 3.14 inch capacitive touch screen looks amazing only as a low-end smart phone, not a mid-end smart phone.
Well, that’s because mostly, touch screen phones that spread out around the mid-end market have already supported much higher quality touch screen than Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570. For example, the suitable contender for this phone, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini already supports 16M colors, 3.5 inches and 320x480 pixels.
So in this Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 review, my overall impression on the screen is not too good or too bad. Its screen quality is just average or mediocre than the other competitors.
However, if the price of this phone hits the low price range, then the Samsung own User Interface still looks nicely done by the vendor, especially with the injection of Android Froyo OS and 600MHz processor, the whole performance of this phone can be considered as fluid and pretty fast.
The Homescreen
On the homescreen, just like on the other Android phones around the market, there is a feature to add more widget, shortcut or application icons. The 3-page homescreen can also be slide to the left or right to give you more space for your wished widgets.
On the top of screen, there is also a notification window that integrates the quick accesses for GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, turn off/on silent mode and auto-rotate. This notification window will appear when the panel on the top screen is slide to the bottom. And if you want more applications for your phone, the quick access for Market Place has been provided on the homescreen and main menu.
Camera
Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 comes with 3.2 MP camera. Unfortunately, Samsung doesn’t really take this aspect seriously. Compared with the other mid-end Android phones around the market, then the camera quality of this phone is still below the standard of smart phones. As a matter of fact, based on this Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 review, the pictures taken by this phone can only give you mediocre quality photos, either in indoor or outdoor. The worst thing, this phone also doesn’t have LED flash.
Multimedia and Entertainment
Luckily, those disappointments above can be healed by the music aspect of this phone. The audio quality is considered good. The instruments, the bass frequencies, the beats can be felt perfectly in your ears when the 3.5mm headphone is plugged on to this phone. The interface of music player also looks convenient to use and also attractive with the animation feature. You can also watch high resolution videos or movies with this phone.
Connectivity
Internet connectivity also gets the special treatment from Samsung. You can now surf your favorite websites comfortably either in you house or on-the-go nears the hotspot area, because Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 has already supported WiFi, HSDPA + HSUPA and also Hotspot mini feature that enables you to set this phone as a tethering WiFi connection or hotspot device.
Not to mention, the built-in web browser of this phone has been equipped with the multitouch ability. So sliding the page or doing pinch to zoom can be done nicely on this phone. Overall, the speed of internet access on this phone can be considered pretty fast.
Other Features
The other features that should get highlight are the additions of Office Document viewer application, the integration of Gmail, File Manager, Note and other useful stuff.
Data Storage
Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 has been injected with 160MB internal storage and 2GB included storage. It’s also expandable up to 32GB with microSD external memory.
Conclusion
Bottom line, if you put this phone next to Sony Xperia X10 Mini Pro, which is also small and portable device, then Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 will lose the battle by any aspect. However, when the price of this phone hits the low-end market, then getting this phone is not really bad idea as a customer. Its already supports of WiFi, touch screen, HSDPA, Android OS and the most importantly, this phone is really small in your hands, can make this phone a great purchase.
On the other hand, if the price of this phone is still higher than, say, Xperia X10 Mini Pro, then of course, you must choose Xperia X10 Mini Pro.
