Sony Ericsson used to released a digital camera look-a-like cell phone in the past called Sony Ericsson S700i. Now, bringing new revolutionized design and features, this phone maker is proud to show off one of its army, Sony Ericsson C905a to the public. Designed in the same framework design with S700i, this phone looks like a digital camera from its silver case cover. Okay, in this Sony Ericsson C905 review, i want to show you the whole aspect from this phone that you might want to know before you buy it.
Design
The overall design of C905a looks really elegant and uniquely fat with its digital camera body design. The front side of this phone looks really clean with the concealment of the keypad, leaving only some important physical keys around the screen. This surely gives a significant area for the screen to improve. Something that becomes the highlight of this phone obviously is the bright and shinny ice silver body cover.
This case cover really makes this phone look just like a real digital camera than a cell phone, because the color resembles the whole color of general digital camera you can find across the market.
Compared to its old brother, C903, this phone has a square look on the whole side, while the C903 body design looks really rounded, especially on each corner.
C905a has also been specifically design by the manufacturer not just as a digital camera cell phone, but with the deployment of 2 extra gaming dedicated buttons on top of the screen. I remember Sony Ericsson also implemented these 2 extra gaming buttons on its other series, W910i, which work really well for landscape gaming. But the problem is it’s really rare to find games that support the landscape mode, so it’s pretty useless to have these buttons.

- feels pretty bulky in our hands | it's rare to find java games that support landscape mode, so 2 top buttons are useless | operating main menu is laggy
- Bottomline

Physical Keys
6 physical keys for left soft key, right soft key, phone call, phone end, application shortcut and delete button have been deployed on the front side of this phone, with 2 extra gaming buttons on the top. The D-Pad on is really solid on the center below the screen. I’ve experienced that square D-Pad is way stronger than the round or circle D-Pad, so I'm sure that the D-Pad of this phone will survive in the long period of time.
The rest of the keypad or number buttons can be found on the bottom sliding mechanism of this phone. Designed in the same mechanism with W910i, the keypad of C905a are pretty easy to use, despite the flat look on the front side.
Interface and Functionality
Based on this Sony Ericsson C905 review, the scratch-resistant surface screen of C905a has been built in a really solid material. With the support display of TFT, 256K colors, everything you see on the 240 x 320 pixels screen resolution looks really glamour and clean.
The best thing about the screen is the screen of this phone is really wide (2.4 inches), providing users with more accurate and detailed interface on the screen. The Accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate feature has also been injected to the screen, to provide you with automatic landscape mode.
Talking about the menu interface of this phone, I have to say that the manufacture wants to differentiate the menu interface of this phone from the standard Sony Ericsson interface. C905a has really glamor vertical menu with really huge icons for every application or media. But unfortunately, the performance of this phone is the one who suffers. I experience some late request when sliding the menu to the top or bottom.
Phone Specification
Just like I’ve already said earlier in this Sony Ericsson C905 review, this phone brings many awesome features to the users, such as: 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Picture editor/blogging, USB, and GPS with the support of Wayfinder Navigator 7. I believe Wifi connection and GPS are the highlights from the whole features.
Multimedia and Entertainment
Multimedia and entertainment aspects also get the best treatment from the manufacture. Now listening to music or watching videos via this phone can be so relaxing because this phone has supported MP3/AAC/MP4 player, Stereo FM radio, TrackID music recognition, TV-out and Loudspeaker.
Sony Ericsson C905 Review - 8MP Camera
Okay, now it’s time for the serious feature from C905a, the camera. Earlier I said that this phone had a similarity with any general digital camera around the market, in term of design. And I was actually right about that. With the powerful 8MP camera, you will surely have a magnificent experience when taking photos or recording videos, because the camera of this phone is really powerful.
In this Sony Ericsson C905 review, I also found that the autofocus and xenon flash have also been equipped to this phone. The other additional features also help the implementation of this camera a lot, such as: Geo-tagging, face and smile detection, smart contrast, image stabilization, smile detection (with update) and Videocalling.
Sony Ericsson C905 Review - Performance
Just like its other predecessors, this phone is only a java based cell phone, without any operating system whatsoever. So practically, the applications or games that are allowed to play with this phone are only applications or games across java platform. But this doesn’t make this phone feel inferior at all, because many awesome games, such as: Need for Speed: Undercover until the Hot Pursuit can be played perfectly with this phone, smoothly without a problem.
Sony Ericsson C905 Review - Data Storage
Sold in 4 different case covers (Night Black, Ice Silver, Copper Gold, Tender Rose), C905a has been provided with 160MB internal memory, including the 2GB or 8GB Memory Stick Micro (M2).
Sony Ericsson C905 Review - Battery Life
The most powerful thing from all of java-based cell phones from Sony Ericsson is of course the strong battery life. Providing users with the best quality of battery is Sony Ericsson's best job so far. Proven to be, all of its Walkman series have a great quality of battery life. And Sony Ericsson C905 will keep the track record going.
Even if you set this phone at the middle brightness rate, it still last longer. So i would say that if you're into gaming, although it's only java gaming, this phone can last around 6-8 hours in the long run.
In stand-by mode, this phone can survive around 2 days or more. And the most importantly, listening music with this phone will deliver much longer battery life than i mentioned above.
Sony Ericsson C905 Review - Between Sony Ericsson W910i and C905a
Compared to Sony Ericsson W910i, C905a will absolutely win the battle because it has been equipped with Wifi, GPS and the powerful 8MP camera on the back. So I'm really sure that this phone should be the one you’re looking if you want sophistication and elegance in one great cell phone.
Conclusion
Sony Ericsson never disappointed me with its products. Although Sony Ericsson C905a is not one of Walkman series, but to be honest, I find that this phone has similarity with the other Walkman series, W910i (which is one of my favorites so far) in term of design, especially with the bottom sliding and 2 extra dedicated gaming buttons on the top of screen.
I've been impressed by the quality of Sony Ericsson W910i, so i stand firm and believe that C905 will give you much more than that.
Bottom line, if you want to buy a mid-end cell phone that offers high quality features and powerful camera, then Sony Ericsson C905 is what you're looking for.
