Motorazr V8: Decent Looking Cell Phone that Comes with Two Main Screens

Few years ago, when touch screen smart phones were not exist yet, flip cell phones successfully grasped people’s attention when these people were little bit bored with the standard cell phones around the market that vast majority of them utilized the same exact pocket cell phone design, which was quite cliché that time. So, flip cell phone like

Motorazr V8 was one of many cell phones that became a good choice, especially for professional career people or employee staff in the office.

And apparently, besides offering users with elegant and classy look,

Motorazr V8 is actually a good quality cell phone that also comes with good quality features and specs. So your great expectation about this phone can perfectly meet with the whole quality of this phone.

Motorazr V8: Decent Looking Cell Phone that Comes withTwo Main Screens

Design

Motorazr V8 comes with a slick design and it looks much more elegant than the original. In hand grasp, it’s larger and heavier than the predecessor, but it still feels nice and comfortable to hold. The entire side of this phone is produced by the vendor with great and distinctive materials on every specific position, which make Motorazr V8 look even more elegant. For example, the front panel of this phone is constructed in some different type of materials.

The top hinge of this phone, which is used to help flip the front panel, is also designed in different material than the rest body of this phone. And it goes the same with the front panel and also the back cover.

On the front panel, you are directly presented with the secondary external screen that surprisingly has the similar specs with the internal screen. Unlike the other flip cell phones out there that mostly utilize secondary external monochrome screen, the external display of Motorazr V8 uses the similar 256K color display and 240x320 pixel screen resolution, just like the internal screen. However, the external screen of this phone doesn’t use TFT quality screen and the size (2.0 inches) is smaller than the internal screen (2.2 inches).

Secondary External Screen

The great thing about this secondary external screen is the injection of cool capability called “contextual touch interaction” on this screen. With this feature, if you open the media player through the external screen, you can easily navigate the virtual on-screen buttons (Play/Pause, forward and repeat) that appear on the screen with your finger touch. So it’s kind of like controlling a touch screen phone.

Anyway, on that external display, you can check the text messages, you can control the media player or you can also change the phone profile. This external screen is actually really easy to use. But the performance of the external display is not that smooth compared to the internal screen. So you might find slow response every time you control the screen.

The slow response that always happens on this external display is actually quite surprising since Motorazr V8 only operates the whole system and data around the internal storage, because there is no support for external memory on this phone. And Motorazr V8 is also powered by 500MHz processor, which is pretty fast for mobile device. I think maybe the “contextual touch interaction” feature is the one that causes the lag or slow response on its external screen.

Interface and Functionality

On the other hand, the internal screen of Motorazr V8 comes with little bit higher specs than the external display. With the supports of TFT 256K colors and 240x320 pixels, every thing that is presented on the screen looks bright and pretty sharp. And the 2.2 inch internal screen is also bigger than the external display, which is only 2 inches.

Performance

The performance of this phone can be considered good, since this phone is already powered by 500MHz processor. Not to mention, this phone has also been planted with Linux/Java-based MOTOMAGX operating system, which is the same OS that being used on vast majority of Motorola cell phones, including Motorola ROKR em30 or Motorola ROKR E8.

Features

Motorazr V8 comes with some standard features. If you love snapping photos or recording videos, you will be glad to hear that this phone is already equipped with 2MP camera, but without the support of LED flash. And if you want to play Java-based applications or games, you can certainly play them conveniently with this phone. Transferring data or media files to other devices can be helped with its standard Bluetooth and USB feature.

Multimedia and Entertainment

It’s too bad that the sophisticated external display on this phone is not followed by the complete capability on music aspect. Motorazr V8 doesn’t have FM Radio and 3.5mm headphone jack for examples. This phone also doesn’t support external memory and you can only count on its only 2GB internal storage to store your files.

Although this phone is not rolled out under the ROKR series, which is popular as the music series from Motorola, this phone is still proud with its sound quality. Unfortunately, the impression of a music cell phone cannot be fully presented on this phone because there is no FM radio, 3.5mm headphone jack and external memory support, which is so important for some people to store all of their song collection as many as possible to this phone.

Conclusion

Bottom line, as a music cell phone, then Motorazr V8 can be categorized as a “not good enough” music cell phone. Although the sound quality of this phone is good and the external display looks sophisticated on this phone, the absence of FM radio, 3.5mm headphone jack and external memory support cannot be underestimated by the vendor, which in turn, will create scrutiny from the public.

My Recommendation

But if you want a much better option than this phone, instead of Motorazr V8, you can now switch your target to Motorazr2 V9 because this phone comes with the same exact specs with Motorazr V8 and it’s already supported microSD external memory and 3G HSDPA.
