Samsung Champ GT-C3303k: Pocket Smart Phone in Low-end Market

In the cell phone market, there are many types of touch screen phones that mostly have the same and identical appearance one to another. What makes them look similar are of course the wide touch screen, concealed numeric keypad and some physical buttons on the front side. On the other hand, what makes them look different is the body size, which can be differentiated into 2 types, standard touch screen phones and portable touch screen phones. And one of Samsung army called

Samsung Champ GT-C3303K can be categorized in the second group, which is a portable or pocket smart phone.

Offering users with touch screen experience in the smaller device, Samsung Champ GT-C3303K is another tiny smart phone that doesn’t only feels and fits perfectly into our hands, but it also works surprisingly fast as a low spec smart phone.

At a glance, the one thing that becomes the highlight on the front side of this phone is the rounded corner that surrounds the entire area where the screen and 3 physical buttons are placed. This rounded corner is also separated into 2 parts, one for the edge side and the other one is for the area of 2 speakers and 1 microphone. These 2 speakers are positioned on the top and bottom area of the front side which also look prominent with their distinctive holes.

Samsung Champ GT-C3303K has also been embedded with 3 main physical buttons that you can use to navigate to the phone call window, back function and phone end function. I think they look really, I don’t know, maybe casual and less attractive are the right words. However, the great thing about these 3 elements is that they are designed in the same color with the whole case cover of the phone, which makes them look integrated one to another.

On the back cover, you can find the camera that only has 1.3MP capability, which is far below the standard of touch screen phones, even portable ones. Moreover, there is no LED flash injected on this phone. So this phone will definitely lose the battle with most competitors around the market, specifically portable smart phones.

To make a comparison, let’s take Xperia X10 Mini Pro from Sony Ericsson as a suitable rival for Samsung Champ GT-C3303k. Xperia X10 Mini Pro has 5MP camera, the actual physical QWERTY keyboard on the back slider, much higher screen specs and Android OS, which offers wide variety applications and games for this device. So there’s no chance Samsung Champ GT-C3303K will beat Xperia X10 Mini.

Talking about the back cover, if you open the battery cover of this phone, it will also open the whole side of the back cover. Interestingly, the battery cover also has a specific hole for the camera, which means, if you open the battery cover, the camera is still there (Duh!). Anyway, there is nothing special on the back side of this phone besides the camera and the “Samsung” text logo.

Now the best part of this phone, the User Interface. As you know, this phone doesn’t use Android or even Bada operating system. Instead, it is only injected with Samsung proprietary operating system. But it still uses the Touch Wiz as its User interface, which has also been the core UI of other touch screen phones from Samsung, including Android phones.

On the 2.4 inch screen, everything looks nice and well presented on the user interface. The one thing that really surprises me is how fast the performance of this phone. I mean, once you have a hold of this phone in your hands, I bet you will also be amazed by its fast and fluid performance of the user interface. For example, on the main menu, the place where you can find all of your apps and games, sliding the screen to the left and right is tremendously fast and freakin’ responsive.

On the home screen, you are given with 1 main Homescreen + 4 extra pages that you can fill with you r favorite widgets or shortcuts. On the bottom position of the Homescreen, you’re also provided with 3 virtual keys to navigate to the numeric Keypad menu, Phone book and Main menu. SO it’s similar with other Samsung phones that utilize Touch iz UI under the proprietary OS. Not to mention, the background can also be changed with other wallpaper or your own photos.

Samsung Champ GT-C3303K comes with some standard features, from Bluetooth, USB, Stereo FM radio, Java MIDP 2.0, SNS integration and interestingly, this small device also has 3.5mm headphone jack. This phone has also been equipped with 30MB internal storage with up to 8GB microSD card on upgrade.

Bottom line, as a small device that has touch screen technology, Samsung Champ GT-C3303K’s pride is only its fast performance, other than that, there is nothing special with this phone, the camera only has 1.3MP capability, which is far below the standard for touch screen phones, and it doesn’t use Android or Bada OS, only Samsung proprietary OS, which is not as popular as those 2 OS.

So in conclusion, if right now, you’re hunting for this phone, I think I have another recommendation for you, and that is Xperia X10 Mini Pro, which offers 5MP camera, much higher screen specs, good sound quality and wide variety apps across Android platform. It’ll totally beat Samsung Champ GT-C3303K by miles.
