Samsung D780 Duo: Dual-SIM Technology on Oldie Samsung Cell Phone

As one of biggest cell phone vendors in the world, the journey of Samsung in the mobile market in the past were full of challenges and obstacles along the way, especially when Nokia and Sony Ericsson were only the 2 vendors that got special treatment from the market. So that’s why, it’s possible that you never heard the one called

Samsung D780 Duo, right? Well, on this post, you're about to find out how this phone looks like, how it works, and is it worth buying?

Design

At a glance, Samsung D780 Duo looks really simple as a casual cell phone. Interestingly, this phone has also been equipped with Dual-SIM technology, which is pretty rare that time. By looking at the whole design of this phone, the appearance of Samsung D780 Duo is not that impressive compared to other smart phones around the market

. However, the core design of this phone is quite simple, which makes it easier for users to be familiar with the whole functions of this phone. I think the most prominent element that can be found on the front side is the colors that are chosen by the vendor when designing this phone.

The numeric keypad on the bottom looks integrated with entire side in almost similar color. The D-Pad also appears solid in the middle with the metallic trimming that surrounds the entire side. And then, from the screen area to the physical keys, the color looks darker than the other side, which also creates a great accent on the front side.

The buttons on the keypad are easy to press and can be nicely felt with your fingers. And you’ll find no trouble at all when operating the keypad in daily basis. Unfortunately, the D-Pad is placed near the C or “cancel” button, so it could be little bit hard and inconvenient for some people to reach between 2 of these buttons while staring at the screen. The charging port and the camera button are equipped on the right side of the phone. The volume and SIM control can be found on the left side, along with the microSD slot.

On the back side, the 2MP camera is positioned on upper right area. There is nothing else to be found on the back side except that only camera. The battery cover is designed by the vendor in 2 separated colors, where the bottom area has much darker color than the upper area.

Interface and Functionality

On the 2.1 inch screen, with the supports of TFT, 256K color display and 240 x 320 pixel screen resolution, the picture that being displayed on the screen is well saturated and pretty good. However, when the high level of sun light hits the screen, nothing is visible on the screen.

The user interface of this phone looks kind of similar with the other models from Samsung. On the Homescreen, it can be added with clock widget in different regions. For example, you can set the top clock widget in London time zone, while the second clock widget is set in New York time zone. So it’s pretty useful if you want to get a quick update if you’re currently living in other country and wanting to know about the time zone in your native country.

Dual-SIM Feature

This phone also has separated menu for the Dual-SIM card control, which can be activated with the left side button. And then, you can also choose whether to use the first SIM number or the second one on the main stand-by mode.

Features

Samsung D780 Duo comes with 32MB internal storage, 2GB included microSD card, Bluetooth, USB, Stereo FM radio, Java MIDP 2.0, Dual-SIM technology, Document viewer and many more. Not to mention, this phone has also been equipped with 2MP camera without the support of LED flash.

Conclusion

Bottom line, Samsung D780 Duo may not be a cool cell phone to buy if you are looking for sophisticated device in the first place. But the one thing that might make you happy about this phone is of course the support of Dual-SIM support. Luckily, this phone also pretty good screen specs, pretty good 2MP camera, pretty bigger 32MB internal storage and the most importantly, you will also get an extra 2GB external microSD card in the first purchase.

In conclusion, if the price of this phone is lower than $70, then Samsung D780 Duo is still worth it. However, if the price is still higher than $70, then you might want to switch to other smart phones that already have much higher specs. And If you can add a little extra budget $40 to your budget, which makes it to $110, then maybe you can have an Android touch screen smart phone, say, Xperia X8.
