Connectivity
Besides powerful as gaming device, Kindle Fire is absolutely perfect to use for browsing internet. Providing users with “pinch to zoom” mode in web browser, the browsing experience is absolutely enhanced to the next level. Amazon also claims that its own web browser on this tablet, which is called as Amazon Silk browser, can deliver such a fast browsing speed because it uses hardware and OS of the Kindle Fire in conjunction with Amazon cloud service, which delivers dual effort to load the web pages as fast as possible.
It’s also great to hear that Kindle Fire has also been armed with mobile flash support, which allows web browser to display any flash-based web elements, such as: Youtube videos, flash ads, flash games, etc.
Interface and Functionality
Although Kindle Fire runs the same platform as other touch screen smartphones and tablets out there, Android OS, surprisingly, the user interface of Kindle Fire looks totally different with other Android counterparts. The reason why the User Interface is different is because Kindle Fire actually uses Amazon own customized Android Gingerbread OS on its platform. Navigating the touch screen of Kindle Fire is impressively smooth.

Amazon has also integrated Kindle Fire with its online video store, making sure that you can easily find you favorite movies or TV shows in a single tap on the Video navigation menu. On this video section, you’ll be able to buy from old movies until the newest Television shows in variety different prices, starting at $2.99. However, on the section called “vPrime”, you can also watch older movies for FREE (e.g., SPEED, Nothing Hill, Face OFF, etc). And if you want to watch the newer stuff, you can pay for them.
On the application store section, you are provided with an easy access to find wide variety of applications and games running on Android platform. The collection of apps for Kindle Fire is absolutely huge. I’ve already mentioned some of HD games above, which are the newest games on Android market (Google Play Store), and they are all available on Amazon app store.
Battery Life
Battery life could be the biggest strength that Kindle Fire has. Many users of this tablet reported that they got around 8 hours in straight reading e-Books and 7.5 hours in video play, which is really amazing for Android device. As a cheapest tablet PC, Kindle Fire doesn’t feel like a cheap tablet at all. As a matter of fact, I do really think that the $199 price tag for this tablet can be considered too cheap, compared to its amazing performance and great experience that it delivers to users. It’s really amazing that such a cheapest tablet PC like this can run and play high definition games so smoothly and steadily fast. And its powerful battery life really elevates the whole quality of this tablet to the next level.
The Cons
However, there are some cons that can be found on Kindle Fire, such as:
- The lack of physical buttons on this tablet, I mean, a simple like volume buttons can be so handy when watching movies or listening to music on this tablet,
- delay or lag performance in User Interface,
- the late response that happens when tapping the virtual QWERTY keyboard in text editor,
- the lack of external memory support and also, no camera on this tablet.
Conclusion
Other than that, Kindle Fire looks and works great. This 7 inch tablet is absolutely an amazing Android tablet. Again and again I have to say this. Even though the price of Kindle Fire, which is only $199, is considered cheap, but the whole quality that comes with this tablet is definitely equal with many expensive tablets out there.
