So yeah, a while ago, Microsoft just surprisingly unveiled its new home-made tablet called

“Surface” that will come in 2 models

, in Windows RT variant and Windows 8 Pro model (not Windows Phone 8). And both of them are made by Microsoft itself, which gives a “slap in the face” for many device manufacturers (OEMs) that have been planning to assemble some new Windows Phone 8-equipped tablets in the future. Apparently, that slap is about to become much harder to feel when knowing that, after unveiling its own home-made “Surface” tablets, Microsoft also plans to release its own home-made smartphones.

This decision can actually be really bad for OEMs because they are not in the mood to compete with the tech giant Microsoft, but the worst scenario also comes to Microsoft’s golden boy, Nokia, that has been putting sweats and hard efforts to make

, that will likely be left crying by Microsoft in the near future if this rumor comes to fruition.

Anyway, according to the financial analyst Rick Sherland, it’s actually true that Microsoft is indeed about to produce its own Windows Phone 8 handsets after unveiling its recent “Surface” tablet to the public few days ago. Sherland then quoted as saying :

“Separately, our industry sources tell us that Microsoft may be working with a contract manufacturer to develop their own handsets for Windows Phone”. 

However, Sherland also added that the WP 8 handsets that Microsoft has been working on lately probably will be just a reference platform instead of an actual Microsoft’s market-oriented devices.

The Microsoft "Surface" tablet

This is maybe acceptable for us to believe that. However, given the fact that just a while ago, Microsoft has clearly shown off in front of us its own home-made “Surface” tablet, made by Microsoft itself, then the possibility of Microsoft releasing its own WP8 smartphones is one the edge of realization. Moreover, at its mobile event, it's also worth mentioning that besides "Surface" tablet, Microsoft also unveiled WP 8 handsets to the public, powered by dual-core silicon.

So it looks like, the rumors will be much stronger to turn into tangible presence that indeed, Microsoft has been working on a really big project in its secret lab to launch its own Windows Phone 8 smartphones in the near future.
