The Release of Google Nexus 7 Could Speed up the Launch Date of Kindle Fire 2 from November to August

Everybody knew that when the rumors regarding the launch of Google Nexus 7 had been floating since few weeks ago or so, Amazon was under high pressure because Google Nexus 7 is an Android tablet using the same 7-inch display just like on the Amazon’s Kindle Fire. So, it’s really clear that Google Nexus 7 aims its bullet at Kindle Fire, instead of iPad. And with the pressure becoming much stronger and more real also from the 7-inch Samsung GALAXY Tab 2 that has been doing great in Android tablet market to date and also the rumored iPad Mini, then there is no other way for Amazon except to fasten its seatbelt and speed up the release date of Kindle Fire’s sequel,

Kindle Fire 2 from November to August next month

.

As well all know, Amazon had been so superior in Android tablet market especially in last quarter of last year when it’d successfully shipped over 5 million units of Kindle Fires and made further profits through the Amazon App Store that sold variety of contents and apps for Kindle Fire. With the holyday season is still 6 months away, especially Christmas and New Year celebrations, Amazon has high hopes that by moving the original release date of

Kindle Fire 2 from November to August, it could have a chance to reduce the pressure from Google Nexus 7

, Samsung GALAXY Tab 2 and the rumored iPad mini, from taking charge the 7-inch tablet market.

Unfortunately, there is another problem that could hold back Amazon from launching its Kindle Fire 2. According to multiple reports, the lamination process of Kindle Fire 2 could increase the total cost of making each tablet around $10 because this process is really important to get rid of air gap between LCD and touch panel in order to make Kindle Fire 2 thinner. Therefore, this could make it difficult for Amazon to keep the price of this tablet at $199.

However, if that is the case, then Amazon could otherwise still keep the price of Kindle Fire 2 at $199 with the consequence of taking loss of each tablet sold.

This situation is actually similar when Amazon sold Kindle Fire 1 at $199 price tag. That time, even though Amazon had been taking loss of every Kindle Fire sold, Amazon could still patch the loss and make more profits by selling contents and apps on Amazon App Store to Kindle Fire users. So apparently, this is the best strategy that will likely be used again by Amazon when selling the Kindle Fire 2.

Despite having sold only 700.000 units of Kindle Fire during the first quarter of 2012 this year, which is much smaller compared to the staggering amount of 5 million units sold in last quarter of 2011 last year, Amazon still aims for the next holiday season because that is the best time for people to buy Kindle Fire 2 as the best holiday gift for their friends or family.

So we should wait and see whether Kindle Fire 2 could survive or not from the attacks of Tegra 3 quad-core tablet Google Nexus 7 and other Android counterparts, including the rumored iPad Mini as well.
